  3. award-winning Ensemble 1.0(R) and GeoWorks(R) Pro(TM) integrated
  4. software packages, announced today that Ensemble 2.0 is now
  5. available as an upgrade to the company's installed base of customers.
  6. Ensemble 2.0 adds an integrated database and spreadsheet to its
  7. suite of improved applications.

  9. Ensemble 2.0 delivers a sharp, intuitive graphical user interface
  10. (GUI) with the addition of an integrated spreadsheet with charting,
  11. GeoCalc(TM), and a flat-file, forms-based database, GeoFile(R).
  12. GeoWorks engineers have also made major enhancements to GeoWrite(TM)
  13. and GeoDraw(R) applications, added color printer support, context-
  14. sensitive online help, and an import/export module that allows users
  15. to import or export data to/from many major file formats. Each of
  16. these applications will come with templates to make it even easier
  17. for users to produce high-quality documents.

  19. "Ensemble 2.0 represents nearly two years of intense work for our
  20. engineers and marketing staff and much of what has been added came
  21. from customer suggestions," said Brian Dougherty, GeoWorks chairman
  22. and CEO. "GeoCalc and GeoFile, along with the enhanced versions of
  23. GeoWrite and GeoDraw, have the kind of functionality usually reserved
  24. for expensive stand-alone applications, making Ensemble 2.0 an
  25. impressive upgrade for our customers."

  27. New Applications and Enhanced GeoWrite and GeoDraw

  29. GeoCalc is a dynamic, graphical spreadsheet and charting application
  30. that supports 8,192 rows by 256 columns and has 99 built-in functions
  31. including mathematical, statistical, financial, and more. Graphics
  32. tools are built-in, allowing users to easily create column, bar or pie charts.
  33.  
  34. GeoFile is a graphical database that is based on "templates" rather
  35. than rows and columns, which makes it much easier to use. GeoFile can
  36. store more than 16,000 names and addresses per database and has support
  37. for multiple field types such as time and date. Flexible page set-up
  38. capabilities allow the user to easily design forms for labels or envelopes.
  39. A full set of drawing tools and spreadsheet functions are also available
  40. in GeoFile.

  42. Major enhancements to GeoWrite include built-in graphics tools that allow
  43. a user to create complex graphics right in the document, mail merge,
  44. search-and-replace, and a thesaurus. GeoDraw now includes free-hand
  45. drawing and painting tools as well as ruler and grid capabilities,
  46. making it easier to create sophisticated documents.

  60. The Ensemble 2.0 upgrade follows the recent announcement that GeoWorks'
  61. software development kit (SDK) is in beta test and that a number
  62. independent software vendors (ISVs) were in San Francisco at the
  63. company's first Developers Training Seminar, April 19.

  65. "Upgrading our installed base to Ensemble 2.0 caps off an exciting month
  66. of April for us," Dougherty said. "We consider the upgrade an important
  67. part of our strategy to establish our GEOS system software as a leading-
  68. edge operating system for products used in a variety of markets. Our

  70. additional GEOS-based applications."
